THE FRAMES
The Frames are a fantastic way for us to look at and analyze artworks.
This week we will have a look at what the frames are and how they are applied.
There are four frames:
Structural
Subjective
Cultural
Cultural
Postmodern
When using the frames, visualize holding a specific frame ( subjective, cultural....) in front of an artwork and view it through that.
Lets look at what each of these are.....
Lets look at what each of these are.....
STRUCTURAL FRAME
The STRUCTURAL
FRAME is where the form, media, techniques and how the work is composed using
the elements and principles of design are examined. Using the Structural frame we look at how an artwork is made and the elements involved that reinforce this.
SUBJECTIVE FRAME
The
SUBJECTIVE FRAME is where the personal and emotive qualities of an artwork are examined and how the
artist has used the the principles of design to convey feelings,
personal responses or imaginings to the audience. The subjective frame also considers the viewers response.
CULTURAL FRAME
The CULTURAL FRAME
is where the cultural environment in which the artist has developed
subject matter, conventions, style and technique, is explored by the
artist and audience. We look at the environment, society, political and cultural context that surrounds the artworks meaning and purpose.
POST-MODERN FRAME
The POST-MODERN FRAME is
where the artist in contemporary times uses the non-conventional,
the appropriated and how they have recontextualisated traditional mediums and forms to present art to a 21st Century audience.
Next week you will use each of the frames to analyze an artwork!
